In honour of the great Šumava poet, a monument was erected on the lake wall of Lake Plöckenstein in 1876-77.
15 metre high granite obelisk. Only accessible on foot - walking time 2 hours from the Oberschwarzenberg car park (one way). An identity card or passport (not a driving licence!) is required to continue the walk to Plöckensteinersee, which takes about 1/2 hour.
The monument consists of a 14.5 metre high obelisk made of granite. Adalbert Stifter's name and a tribute are inscribed on the front of the stone. Two quotations from his works are inscribed on the sides of the stone. The date of construction is inscribed on the side facing the lake.
